Maybe It's Love...

A few days ago, I received what now seems to be quite a terrible accusation.  This accusation is worsen by the fact that it came from someone who should know me much better than what I now think she does.

My friends, I have been accused of "being in love, with love itself".  Even as I type this, I cannot help but raise one eyebrow and roll my eyes in disbelief.  I will not get too deep into what has triggered the accusation but, I do wonder this much...

SINCE WHEN HAS BEING PASSIONATE ABOUT PEOPLE AND THINGS YOU LOVE BECOME DISINGENUOUS?

We live in a world where people are very opinionated.  I mean.. look at what I am doing right now.  Writing my opinion on a blog, and maybe one or two of you will see the comment box below and give your opinion as well (I hope you do!).  However, I think there is a very fine line between having an opinion and trying to enforce your opinion against someone, especially when you have absolutely no known experience on the subject in your life's resume.

So am I in love, with love itself rather than the people, animals and inanimate objects that fill my life with joy?  Well, I am sure by my tone you can already guess the answer is "NO!".

We are all born into this world knowing exactly what love is.  Just look at the relationship between parent and child.  Love is displayed from both sides a second after birth.  Unfortunately, as we grow older love becomes more complicated and difficult to find in people and things.  But the fact that it's difficult to find... does not mean you have no idea what it is or that you have an unreal idealistic view of it.

This accusation made me think of one of my life's love.  CHAYANNE (of course! lol!).  His discography is the soundtrack to my life, if you didn't already know this about me.  Particularly, in regards to this subject, the song Tal Vez Es Amor (Maybe It's Love).  Please enjoy this translation.  It is one of my favorite songs.  It's simple, honest and straight to the point. ;-)

Tal Vez Es AmorMaybe It's Love
No sé decir lo que me gusta de ti,I cannot say what I like about you,
Algo me mata pero me hace vivirSomething kills me but makes me live
Tal vez es amorMaybe It's Love
Es tu mirada o es tu forma de estarIs it your gaze or your way of being
O la tristeza que da si te vasOr the sadness that comes when you leave
Tal vez es amor, quizáMaybe It's Love, perhaps
No sé por qué todo me sabe a tiI don't know why everything tastes like you
Una palabra, un verso, una canciónA word, a verse, a song
Es un misterio de mi corazónIt's a mystery of my heart
Que no me quiere ni contar a míThat he doesn't want to tell even me
Vivo, contigoI live, with you
Es el sueño que yo tengo siempreIt's the dream I always have
Vivo, contigoI live, with you
No encuentro otra forma mejor de vivirI cannot find a better way to live
Yo no sé si es amor por tiI don't know if its love for you
Me temo, me temo que síI am afraid, I am afraid it is
Es tu mirada o es tu forma de estarIs it your gaze or your way of being
O la tristeza que da si te vasOr the sadness that comes when you leave
Yo no sé se si es amor por tiI don't know if its love for you
Me temo, me temo que síI am afraid, I am afraid it is

  1. Bariloche,

What a beautiful essay! You are so right - love is what moves us, just as sadness or anger, but love moves us in a positive direction. I, for one, simply can not imagine my life without music. I hear it when I listen to performers, but I also hear it every waking moment - because I listen with my heart. Every rustle of the tree leaves, the windchimes tinkling in the breeze, the birds chirping...even the cats purring. Even in silence there is music. For me, as well, music is the soundtrack for my life. ALL music, and Chayanne is a great part of that. Music has the ability to transcend mere words and reach us on a higher plane - and take us to places we've only dreamed of. Music has the power to heal or to hurt; to sooth or to scare - or even to surprise us. And music is an immense font of love, which never runs dry. To love music is to love life, and those who don't understand that have simply not yet had the wonderful, life-altering experience to understand such incredible and undeniable power. Music can - and does - transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. And, as a musician, I can tell you that music is definitely a tangible thing. For those who feel that there is only one type of love, let us hope that they have not yet had the opportunity to discover the myriad variations available to the open heart. "Tal Vez Es Amor" is a hauntingly beautiful and poignant song, and the lyrics, as you said, are simple yet profound. Let us hope that, with time, music will warm the hearts of those who have yet to experience it's fire. And then, in time, they will come to understand what it means to truly love.
